What to put in a first message

Which systems are involved, by name and version if you know them. Which formats, if known; a nine-page specification from a buyer's EDI team is a perfectly good attachment. What breaks, or what is changing, and when it needs to be different. Two paragraphs is a good length. German is as welcome as English.

What happens next

1. A reply within two working days. Often sooner; never a template.
2. A call of about thirty minutes, so we can see the shape of the thing.
3. A written yes or no, with the reason. If it is a no, we say who might be a better fit.
